Cycle Polo at the Olympics

Cycle polo was a demonstration sport at the 1908 London Olympics. Cycle Polo is similar to traditional polo, except that bicycles are used instead of horses.

The only bike polo match was played between the Irish Bicycle Polo Association (at this time, Ireland was still entirely part of the UK) and German club Deutscher Radfahrer Bund made up of cyclists who came to London for competing in the track cycling competitions. The competition was held at Shepherds Bush, London.

The Irish team was composed of LR Oswald-Sealy, HE Oswald, AS Oswald (all of Rathclaren Rovers) and Richard McCready jr (Ohne Hast C.C.). The Irish team defeated German club Deutscher Radfahrer Bund 3–1.
