From the beginning at 2008, the European masters games event have been held, organised by the International Masters Games Association (IMGA). The IMGA host these games for mature people whose ages are above 35 years, held after every four years. The main motto of these games is to create not only a permanent bonding among people in this age group, but also to promote lifelong friendship, competition and understanding between mature sports people and remove the narrow thinking about age, gender, race, religion, economic status etc.
There are 35 games in this event and some more games are in planning to be added to the program.
The first sports event of European Masters Games (EMG) was held from (29th August 2008 - 7th September 2008) in Malmo, Sweden. At the first games event of EMG, 3,022 athletes took part. 18 sports events were held in 10 days.
From the first event of EMG, the IMGA received a great response from people all around the world. The second event was held at Lignano sabbiadoro, in Italy from (10 Sept 2011 - 20 Sept 2011), and received full 9 hour live T.V coverage. 18 different sports were competed in.
