Tower Running, also known as Stair Climbing, involves a grueling race up tall man-made structures. Events are held around the world, particularly on significant landmarks. Races are held as either a time trial or in mass-start format.
Example Races
The Empire State Building Run-Up is held in New York every year. The runners can run up the 1,430 steps in about 10 minutes, only a little slower than the elevator!
In Australia the equivalent race is the Rialto Run-Up, in which the winner is awarded a trip to New York to compete in the Empire State Building race.
The Montafoner Treppencup is a stair running event in Austria, along one of the longest straight stairs in Europe. There are 3,609 steps, 700 meters in altitude and 1.5 kilometers to be mastered as quickly as possible.
