Here are some of the sporting highlights in the world of sport for 1930. The major sporting event of this year was the inaugural FIFA World Cup, won by the hosts Uruguay. In golf, this was the last time an amateur won the British Open. Also this year was the first time an official Commonwealth Games sporting event was held, then called the British Empire Games.
