The NFL season runs through winter every year and it is very common to see games being played in frigid weather conditions. But the game on Jan 10th between Cincinnati Bengals and San Diego Chargers took it to another level. The game, named as the "Freeezer Bowl" was played in conditions where temperature reached -59°F with 27mph winds. Bengals won the game 27-7.

Rosie Ruiz who rose to infamy for cheating in the Boston marathon didn't seem like she learned her lesson that cheating is not the way to go. She was arrested in April for stealing $60,000 and served time in prison.

San Antonio 171 defeated Milwaukee 166 in a 3OT game in the highest scoring game ever in NBA history. The 337 total points game though didn't remain at the top for long and was surpassed by a 370-point game the very next year.

Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert, two of the most dominant players in the history of women's tennis, won two grand slams each. Steffi Graff, the most successful women in grand slam history, made her professional debut that year.

Bjorn Borg shocked the tennis world by retiring from the game at just 26 citing pressure and burnout as the reason. With 11 grand slam wins in his short career, he could have reached unreachable heights had he just kept going.

In the dying seconds of a UEFA Cup match at Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow between FC Spartak and Dutch side Haarlem, in a situation reminiscent of the circumstances at Ibrox Stadium in 1971, a large number of people started rushing toward the exit to get to the metro before the rest of the crowd. A total of 66 people died in the crush.
