Shooting is one of the optional Commonwealth Games sports. Shooting events combine skill, accuracy, concentration and speed. Shooting events have been on the program in 1966, and for all Games since 1974 (but not in 2022). The number of shooting medal events dropped from 44 in 2010 to 19 in 2014 and 2018, though there are more shooting medal chances on the program for women.
There was no shooting event as part of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022. Shooting was initially excluded from the 2022 Commonwealth Games due to a lack of facilities around Birmingham. However, it was later announced that a Commonwealth Archery and Shooting Championships would be held in Chandigarh in India, though this event was later canceled due to the pandemic.
Shooting is not on the program for the Commonwealth Games for 2026.
