The Australian Open Tennis tournament is one of the Grand Slam tournaments of Tennis, held in Melbourne, Australia. Currently, the tournament is held at Melbourne Park in January each year.
The Australian Open is played in the middle of summer time, so often hot days are forecast for this event. The Australian Open Heat Policy may have to come into effect.
Surfaces
For the 2008 event, a new court surface was laid down, changing from theSynpave Rebound Ace, a hardcourt surface composed of polyurethane and synthetic rubber that has been used for the previous few years, to courts made from plexicushion (see more about court surfaces).
The court color has also changed from green to blue. The new courts are believed to be faster than previous, but they would still be slower than the court surfaces used at Wimbledon and the US Open. The new surface would also be more durable under heat stress.
