Sodium Nitrate, or Nitrate, is the next big supplement in the world of elite sport, and the interesting part is that it is most concentrated in beetroots and some other vegetables.
Nitrates help improve exercise tolerance. So by consuming a mixed vegetable juice (including beetroot) regularly or 1-2 hours before running, this may give you some benefit for a training run or event.
You can buy a commercially made brand (Beet-It), but why not get all the other added benefits of drinking a vegetable juice at the same time.
