Greatest 2014 Sporting Highlights

It was a year of several major sporting events, the Winter Olympics, FIFA World Cup and Commonwealth Games. At the World Cup, Germany shocked Brazil 7-1 in the semi-final, then went on to beat Argentina in the final.



At the Winter Olympics, Ole Einar Bjoerndalen became the most prolific medal winner taking his tally to 13 medals over six Games appearances. At the Commonwealth Games, England supplanted Australia to finish top of the medal table for the first time since 1986. The first-ever Invictus Games for disabled soldiers was hosted in London with over 400 competitors from 13 nations.

In the US Open, Serena Williams did not lose a set in the entire tournament, winning her third straight title and her sixth title overall.
