Barrel Jumping – another sport we wished was still around

May 11th, 2021 · No Comments · Sports, Unusual, Winter

Why did I not know about this sport before? It looks like a lot of fun (to watch), though unfortunately, you don’t see it performed anymore. Maybe it is the injury risk, as no one seems to land on their feet. See more about the extinct sport of Barrel Jumping.

New Balance Test for NHL Combine – Y Balance

June 7th, 2015 · No Comments · Balance, Ice Hockey

A new balance test was added to the NHL Combine in 2015, called the Y Balance Test.  This test is a dynamic test performed in a single-leg stance that requires strength, flexibility, core control and proprioception. This is the latest in a series of balance and core stability type tests that they have trialed over the years. It looks like a pretty complex test to perform, but seems a good objective measure of balance. Previously they have used a balance board, single-leg squats and a Hex Agility test (like the like the hexagon test). See more about the Y Balance Test.
