Australia was one of the last teams to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, but in the end it doesn't matter how you got there, just that you made it. Australia played in Group D, drawn against France, Tunisia and Denmark. All their group matches were played at the Al Janoub Stadium. It was Australia's best result at the World Cup, making the round of 16 with two wins in the group stage.

A spirited Australian team secured a famous 1-0 win over Tunisia in its second match, thanks to a sensational first-half header by Mitch Duke. It was Australia's third victory at the World Cup and first since 2010 against Serbia. It was Australia's first World Cup clean sheet since 1974.
30 Nov 2022: Australia v Denmark. 6pm (local time). Final result, Australia won 1-0
Australia defeated Denmark 1-0, in a tense match to advance to the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 for the second time in Australian football history. Australia's solitary goal was by Mathew Leckie following a superb individual run.
3 Dec 2022: Australia v Argentina. 10pm (local time). Final result, Argentina won 2-1
A gutsy effort by Australia could not hold out the two-time champions Argentina, including a classy first-half goal by Messi in probably his final World Cup.
